Biomethane deliveries for different sectors and countries

Insights
Biomethane market, Guarantees of Origin

The demand for physical biomethane and Guarantees of Origin (GoO’s) deliveries in different sectors and countries is increasing.

In addition to track & trace, the following methods have proven to be legally secure verification and recognition systems:

  • Book & claim
  • Mass balance

While Track & Trace guarantees material exclusivity (identity preservation approach), the mass balance system legally secure documentation along the entire supply chain – from biogas production to biomethane injection and withdrawal points.

The book & claim system uses guarantees of origin that can be traded separately from the physical biomethane quantity.

All three procedures have been recognised for years and are also used for new products in different scenarios.
